How to Remove Doves

Birds can be a joy to watch when they come to your garden to feed or bathe. The same birds can become a nuisance if they nest in your attic or roost on your roof or eaves and dirty it with their droppings and molting feathers. Doves, at times, can become nuisance birds for these reasons. Thankfully, there are several bird control measures available to remove and keep out doves. One of the easiest and most effective methods is installation of bird deterrent wire.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the roof edge or boundary wall to remove rust, peeling paint or bird droppings. This helps fix the posts and their bases evenly and firmly to the masonry.

    • 2

Mark the locations for the posts before drilling. Use a measuring tape for this purpose. Anchor posts are fixed every 10 feet and guide posts every 5 feet from the anchor post. Guide posts offer support for the wire.

    • 3

Drill a 1 1/4 inch-deep hole with a diameter of 3/16 inches into the outer edge of the ledge. Insert a nylon anchor rivet into the hole.

    • 4

Fix the post base on the hole, aligning the drilled hole and hole on the post base, then fit a stainless steel post with a height of 3.5 inches onto the base and the drilled hole using a hammer.

    • 5

Follow the above procedure to lay the bases and steel posts every 5 feet along the length of the ledge if it is more than 10 feet.

    • 6

Slide a ferrule onto the wire and then loop it through the eyelet of the spring attached to the post. Push the wire back through the ferrule and push it firmly against the post. Use a crimping tool to crimp the ferrule and cut excess wire using a wire cutter.

    • 7

Feed the wire through all the guide posts and then fix the wire to the other anchor post.

    • 8

Move to the next row. Keep a distance of 3 inches between each rows. Alternate the height of the rows. Start with 3.5 inches. The next row's height should be 5 inches. Fix the anchor and guide posts and then run the wire through them.
