With these mud nests, there is also the issue of insects, which can easily find their way into your home. There are various effective methods that you can use to deter birds from entering eaves.

      Use frightening devices to keep the birds from coming near your house. Devices such as distress or alarm calls should be played at least an hour before it becomes dark. Play the device only 10 to 15 seconds each minute during the time when the birds are expected to enter the area.

      Install metal covering or nylon netting from the outside edge of the eave and down to the wall. You may also consider installing porcupine wires at different angles underneath the eaves. When successfully installed, it should resemble a bed of nails.

      Hang visual scare devices along the eaves to deter birds. Use scare tactics such as hanging silhouettes of hawks or balloons with big painted eyes to keep birds from coming in the eaves. It may take several attempts to prevent the birds from coming back.
