Things You'll Need
- Live trap
- Tape measure
- 1-inch wooden plank (4 feet in length)
- Thin wire mesh
- Wood screws
- Power drill
- Bird seed
- Wire
Instructions
Measure the opening of the live trap using a tape measure. For example, the opening of many live traps is 1 foot by 1 foot. The live trap is used as the base of your Bob style trap.
Cut four wooden planks from the 4-foot board, each 1 foot long. Use a table saw. Nail the ends of the wooden planks together to make a 1 foot by 1 foot wooden square.
Attach one end of thin wire mesh to the wooden square frame. Screw the wire mesh into the wooden frame using a power drill.
Squeeze the other end of the wire mesh into a cone until it makes 3-inch opening. Insert the small opening into the live trap's open door. A Bob style trap has one large opening and gradually gets smaller at the opposite end. The birds enter through the large opening into the trap. They cannot leave the trap because the other opening is too small for them.
Remove the wooden frame and wire mesh from the trap. Place bird seed into the live trap and let the birds feed on the seeds for three days. After the birds are used to the trap, place the wooden frame and wire mesh back into the opening of the trap.
Attach the wooden frame to the opening of the live trap using wire. Wrap the wire around the wooden frame and the opening of the live trap. Your Bob style trap is ready to use.
