How to Attract Wild Quails

Wild quails are attractive and medium-sized ground-dwelling birds that may come into your land given the proper vegetation, plants, and accommodations. Quails live a short life span and do not migrate, so once they have made a home on your land, they will remain there until they die. You will only need about 1/4 acre to build a home for these quails which includes food, shelter, and protection from predators if you want to attract wild quails to live and mate near your home.

Instructions

    • 1

Clear out an area of land that is approximately 1/4 acre large. To attract wild quails, you will need mostly level ground, leaving the quails plenty of room to roam. On this plot of land, you will want plenty of dense vegetation, dead leaves, and twigs.

    • 2

Add plenty of bushes and hedges to the area where you wish the wild quails to make a home. Quails like large open areas of level ground to roam, but also patches of high grass and large bushes to find shelter and protection from other wild predators. These types of materials will also provide the quails with the ability to nest.

    • 3

Plant a food plot in this area with vegetables and plants for survival. Quails enjoy clovers, soybeans, sesame, buckwheat, and peas among others. It will take approximately 60 days for these vegetables and plants to provide seeds which the quails will eat for sustenance, so planting it before you wish to attract the quails is ideal.

Plant quail food plot seed which is a ready-made seed with everything a quail would enjoy. The quail food plot seed may have white proso millet, brown top millet, kobe lespedeza, dove proso millet, and others. Follow the directions on the package for tips on planting and maintaining the plot seed.
