How to Trailer an Emu

Transporting emus can be a tricky task as the flightless birds are often reluctant to get into a trailer. However, once you take hold of an emu, it can easily be guided in the direction you want to go. Trailering more than one emu is easier if you have a helper or two to prevent the other emus leaving the trailer when given a chance to get out.

Instructions

    • 1

Walk behind the emu and grab its two wings.

    • 2

Pull the emu close to your body until it is pressed up to your thighs. Position your feet and shins outside the emu's legs to prevent it kicking you.

    • 3

Guide the emu to the trailer and walk it up the ramp. If you already have emus in the trailer, have an assistant to help keep the rest of the emus at the back, otherwise they may try to run out of the open door.

    • 4

Push the new emu as close to the back of the trailer as possible.

    • 5

Close the trailer door as quickly as possible to give the birds as little escape time as you can.
