Things You'll Need
- Birds' eggs
- Lamp
- 40-watt bulb
- Towel
- Thermometer
Instructions
Check to be sure the eggs are fertile. If the eggs have been left alone long enough for them to feel cold to the touch, it may be too late to hatch them. Also, make sure there is a baby inside by holding the egg up in front of a light in a dark room to check for an embryo.
Set up a lamp to warm the eggs. Place the eggs on a soft surface, such as a towel, to help protect them while they are incubating. Set a lamp with a 40-watt bulb up over the eggs and switch it on. You will need to keep the eggs at a temperature of about 100 degrees Fahrenheit. Use a thermometer under the lamp to check that you are keeping the eggs at the proper temperature. If you need to change the temperature, adjust the distance between the lamp and the eggs.
Monitor the eggs. You will need to turn the eggs a few times a day. This ensures that the eggs are evenly heated and can also prevent overheating of one side of the egg. Continue this until the eggs hatch, which can take up to two weeks.
