How to Safely Ship Duck Eggs Through the Mail

Whether you're mailing duck eggs for hatching or for eating, it's important that they get to their destination in one piece. Even packages marked fragile sometimes go through rough handling. The last thing you want is for the person receiving the package to unpack a gooey mess of broken eggs. With some extra care and attention in packaging, make sure your eggs get where they're going safely.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase egg shipping foam. These are blocks of foam with holes drilled for the eggs, which you can buy online or at feed stores. Make sure you purchase the correct size for duck eggs.

    • 2

Place one egg per hole in the block of foam. Make sure to push the egg into the middle, so it will not poke out of the top or bottom of the hole.

    • 3

Place a layer of bubble wrap at the bottom of the shipping box. Slide the foam blocks in on top of the bubble wrap; add a layer of bubble wrap between each layer of foam.

    • 4

Add more bubble wrap or Styrofoam packing peanuts on the sides if the foam does not fit snugly in the box. It should not move if the box is shaken. Place more pieces of bubble wrap on top of the final foam layer so that the top of the box fits snugly.

Close the box and seal with packing tape. Mark the box "FRAGILE" with a stamp or marker and add an address label. Ship the eggs via overnight delivery.
