How to Make a Leg Brace for a Gosling

If you have found a gosling with an injured or fractured leg, you will need to create a split using layers of medical tape. Because a bird's leg is so small and delicate, the stiffness of the layered tape will be strong enough to act as a splint. When adding strips of tape, do not wrap the bird's leg in a circular motion. Instead apply interlocking strips horizontally against the leg on both sides.

Remove the feathers from the affected leg. If you pluck the feathers, they will grow back faster than if you cut them with scissors. However, scissors might be less distressing to an injured bird.

    • 2

Apply a strip of medical tape directly to the gosling's leg. Continue applying strips above and below the fracture to increase stability.

    • 3

Apply a layer of waterproof medical tape over the regular tape. Use several strips of waterproof tape to completely cover the area.

Trim the sides of the tape split to help the bird's mobility.
