How to Hang a Parakeet Cage

Parakeets enjoy having a cage that is up high so they can be comfortable and enjoy the view. They also enjoy being in a room where the flock (humans or other birds) spend much of their time. In multipet households, particularly those with cats, deciding where to put the parakeet cage can be a challenge. Hanging the cage so that the cats cannot reach it is a great way to keep the birds safe and contentedly housed.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a good location for the parakeet cage. It should be away from any "jump-off" locations that cats can use, get natural sunlight, not be too close to the ceiling (where heat rises and sits), and where you can attach it to a wall stud for security. You also want to place it where you won't bump into it.

Find the wall stud with a stud finder. Mark the stud with a pencil. If this is your first time using a stud finder, follow the instructions that came with the instrument.

    • 3

Attach the plant hanger to the wall. Follow the instructions for hanging the plant hanger into a wood surface. Make sure to screw the hanger into the stud. If the cage is not secured to the stud, it will eventually fall.

Tie a rope loop to the top of the bird cage handle. Make sure it is well tied so that it doesn't slip, then hang it on the plant hanger. Multiple square knots work well for this.
