Instructions

    • 1

Keep the bird in a single area of the house, if possible, by closing doors to prevent the bird from flying to other rooms.

    • 2

Cover windows and any other source of outside light with drapes, curtains, towels or blankets to block off the light.

    • 3

Leave one window or door open and uncovered as an exit for the bird.

    • 4

Turn off room lights and take a few minutes to just stand or sit quietly and calmly.

The bird should fly out on its own through the only lit opening available.

    • 5

If that doesn't work, use a large towel or sheet to try and trap the bird, handling it as gently as possible, and keeping clear of beak and claws.

    • 6

Bring the wrapped bird outdoors, and gently unwrap the towel and blanket, so the wild bird can fly off.
