Things You'll Need
- Parakeet treats
- Shiny toys
Instructions
Place a trail of parakeet treats leading to the location you want the parakeet to go. Millet is an especially good choice. If you're trying to get the parakeet to climb into your hand, feed it a treat through its cage bars. Then open the door and give it a treat. Finally, place a treat on the top of your hand while sticking two fingers out to form a perch.
Hold out a shiny toy such as a parakeet bell. Parakeets are attracted to shiny objects and their curiosity often overcomes their fear. If you're trying to get a parakeet to go back into its cage, place several new parakeet toys in the cage.
Play parakeet sounds. There are many parakeet videos available on the Internet. These sounds often help soothe frightened parakeets and can prove especially useful for luring a parakeet that's loose in your house back into its cage.
Leave the parakeet alone for a few hours. If the parakeet is loose in a room or your house, close doors and exits and leave the room. The parakeet might go back into its cage on its own.
