Can an owl hear a human heartbeat?
Owls have excellent hearing, but the threshold of their hearing range varies depending on the species. Many owls can hear sounds within the frequency range of 2,000 to 12,000 hertz (Hz). The average resting human heart rate is between 60 and 100 beats per minute (bpm). The fundamental frequency of a heartbeat is around 1 Hz, and the overtones can extend up to several hundred Hz. Therefore, owls are unlikely to be able to hear a human heartbeat directly, as the fundamental frequency is below their typical hearing range. However, they may be able to detect the higher-frequency overtones associated with a heartbeat.
