What is the difference between sea birds and shore birds?

Seabirds and shorebirds are both types of birds that spend time in coastal environments. However, they have different adaptations and behaviors that help them survive in these habitats.

Seabirds:

- Adaptations for flying and swimming

- They have webbed feet and streamlined bodies that help them swim, and many have long wings that allow them to soar and glide over the ocean.

- Feed primarily on fish, squid, and other marine creatures.

- Lay their eggs on cliffs, rocky islands, or in burrows.

- Examples: gulls, terns, albatrosses, and penguins.

Shorebirds:

- Adaptations for wading and foraging on the shoreline

- Have long legs and beaks that help them probe mud and sand for food.

- Feed on insects, worms, crustaceans, and other small invertebrates.

- Lay their eggs in nests on the ground or in vegetation near water.

- Examples: sandpipers, plovers, avocets, and oystercatchers.
