What is the trumpeter swans habitat?
The trumpeter swan (Cygnus buccinator) is a large waterfowl species native to North America. Its breeding habitat includes shallow wetlands, marshes, ponds, and lakes in the northern regions of the continent, particularly in Alaska, Canada, and parts of the western United States, including Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. They prefer areas with abundant aquatic vegetation for feeding and nesting. In winter, they migrate south to warmer regions, occupying similar wetland habitats along both coasts and in the interior of the United States. The primary habitats during both breeding and wintering seasons consist of lakes, rivers, marshes, and estuaries with extensive stands of emergent vegetation, open water for swimming and takeoff, and generally undisturbed surroundings.
