How does a peacock protect itself?

Camouflage

Peacocks have dull brown and green feathers that help them blend into their surroundings. This camouflage helps them to avoid predators, such as leopards and tigers.

Warning signals

Peacocks have a large, iridescent tail that they can spread out into a fan. This tail is used as a warning signal to predators. When a peacock senses danger, it will spread out its tail and hiss. This often scares off predators.

Defense

Peacocks have sharp spurs on their legs that they can use to defend themselves against predators. These spurs are about 2.5 centimeters (1 inch) long and can cause serious injury.
