How do birds get to sleep?

Birds do have a well-defined sleeping pattern, called unihemispheric sleep, which allows them to sleep with one half of their brain at a time. This allows them to remain alert and responsive to their surroundings while they sleep, which is particularly important for birds that may need to escape predators or wake up quickly to find food. It's also common for birds to enter a deeper sleep state called slow-wave sleep, during which they will typically roost on a branch or other elevated perch.
