What did the do-do bird look like?
The dodo was a large, flightless bird that was endemic to the island of Mauritius, east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. It was about 1 meter (3 feet) tall and weighed up to 23 kilograms (50 pounds). The dodo had a rounded body, short wings, and a large, hooked beak. Its feathers were mostly gray, with some white and brown feathers on its wings and tail. The dodo was a social bird that lived in flocks and nested on the ground. It ate fruits, seeds, and insects. The dodo became extinct in the late 17th century due to hunting by humans and introduced predators such as dogs, pigs, and rats.
