How do stoats learn to hunt?

Stoats learn to hunt by watching and imitating their mothers and other adult stoats. The young stoats will watch the adults hunt and then they will try to do the same thing. The adults will also help the young stoats by bringing them food and teaching them how to find prey.

Stoat kits often begin to stalk prey while still nursing, and begin killing prey for themselves at about 4 months old. Kits also practice killing techniques through play-hunting with their littermates. By the time they reach adulthood, stoats are skilled and efficient hunters.

This learning process can take several months, but eventually the young stoats will learn how to hunt successfully. They will then be able to use their skills to catch food for themselves and their families.
