Instructions
Decide on a name for your bird. Repeat this name to them regularly and give them some affection while repeating this name. Until they recognize this as their name, refrain from calling them anything else. Once they understand their name it is easier to continue to train them.
Gently place your hand near the feet of the young parrot and say "Up." The lesson of step up and step down are common parrot commands to teach a young bird and encourages the bird to step on your hand and step off your hand. If the parrot does not respond by stepping on your hand, use your hand to lightly brush the parrot's feet until it steps on your hand repeating the "Up" command.
Calm repeat any command you try to teach your new friend. Patience is essential when trying to teach baby parrots.
Maintain reasonable expectations for the bird. There are certain instincts that parrots possess, such as screaming. Parrots cannot learn to stop screeching and screaming, but they can learn that there is a time and place for those behaviors.
Pay attention to the negative actions you may inadvertently teach your parrot as well as the positives. What you may intend as a punishment may not always translate as such to your baby parrot.
How to Teach Baby Parrots
Training baby parrots to be obedient pets is all about consistency and repetition. If you hold your baby parrot to the same commands in a calm tone every time, they will begin to understand what you expect out of them. Be sure to reward your parrot for the progress it are making. Giving positive reinforcement will help the parrot learn.
