Things You'll Need
- 1/2-inch nylon webbing or twill tape
- 1/2-inch velcro strips
- 1/2-inch D-ring
- Elastic mesh fabric
- Diapers
- 1/2-inch nylon leash
Instructions
Measure the base of your duck's neck, body just below wings and base of tail. Measure length of body from nape of neck to base of tail.
Cut the webbing to fit, three circles that will go around the neck, body and tail with enough extra for a 2-inch overlap. Seal ends of nylon webbing with a lit match to prevent raveling, and hem twill tape. Sew velcro hook side to the overlapping two inches, and the plush side to the opposite end of the webbing.
Cut two pieces of webbing twice the length of the body measurement. Fold and sew horizontally one inch below the fold to create a loop for the neck circle. Slide the D ring onto one end of the webbing. Sew the two pieces of webbing together horizontally again below the D-ring at the mark for the wings, locking the D-ring onto the back piece.
Slide the body circle onto the harness between the two pieces of webbing, below the D-ring, and sew again. Repeat with the end of the loop, not fastening the tail circle in.
Hem the square of elastic mesh fabric at the two ends, leaving the sides of the hem open to allow the harness circles to slide through the hems. When the duck needs to be diapered, this will be attached, but will not be on when outside.
Cut the diapers into squares that will fit into the square of mesh fabric. When the duck is to be diapered, slide the body circle through the hem and the tail circle through the other end hem and the harness at the top of the tail. This should cover the vent of the duck well enough to contain fecal matter.
