Things You'll Need
- 2 budgies
- 2 bird cages
Instructions
Bring your new budgie home in a separate cage. Put the two cages within hearing distance of one another in the same room. This way they can get used to one another's presence. Do this for two or three days.
Let your tame budgie out of the cage so that he can inspect the newcomer. Your old budgie will likely fly over and land on the newcomer's cage. Try placing a piece of fruit or nut treat between the bars of the cage, so that both birds can easily eat from it. Do this for another three or four days.
Try putting the two birds together in the same cage, but keep them supervised at all times, as fighting will likely still break out. Everyday, let them spend more time together. Do this for another three days.
Let the two birds nest together in the same cage overnight. If things go smoothly, you'll be ready to move them in together for good.
Create a space that is comfortable for both birds. Put items in their shared cage from both the old budgie and the new budgie's cages - food dishes, water and such. This way they'll both feel right at home with each other.
