Things You'll Need
- Bird toys
- Treats
Instructions
Offer the bird something else to nibble on in the cage or around the house. Make sure the Jenday conure has plenty of bird toys or treats on which to chew. This distracts the bird from nibbling on your arm or finger.
Tell the bird "No" in a firm voice and gently blow onto its beak after it bites you. This sends the bird a clear message that the biting is not acceptable.
Place the bird into its cage if it continues to bite or nip after it has been told "no." Do not give the bird any attention for at least 15 minutes before pulling it out. This gives a bird that is aggressive or frightened a chance to cool off. This affectionate, intelligent breed of parrot will begin to associate biting with being separated from the family.
Speak to a veterinarian or groomer about having the bird's wings clipped. Birds that have clipped wings will be more timid, resulting in less likelihood that the Jenday conure will bite.
