When do baby geese learn to fly?

Geese are precocial birds, meaning that they are able to walk, swim, and feed themselves shortly after hatching. They also begin to learn to fly at a very young age.

Most geese will start to take short flights of a few feet within a few weeks of hatching. They will continue to practice flying over the next few months, and will typically be able to fly long distances by the time they are about 10 weeks old.

Some geese, such as the Canada goose, will even begin to fly south for the winter when they are only a few months old.
