There are, however, several other species within the family Trogonidae (trogons) that are sometimes called "quetzals". These include:
* Golden-headed Quetzal (*Pharomachrus auriceps*)
* Elegant Quetzal (*Pharomachrus elegantulus*)
* Grayson's Quetzal (*Pharomachrus mocinno costaricensis*)
* Mexican Quetzal (*Pharomachrus mocinno mocinno*)
* Guatemala Quetzal (*Pharomachrus mocinno pallidus*)
While these are often referred to as different species of quetzals, they are actually subspecies of the Resplendent Quetzal.
It's important to distinguish between the species and subspecies when talking about quetzals. The Resplendent Quetzal is the only true species, while the others are simply variations within that species.
