How many different types of nightingales are there?

There are seven species of nightingale in the genus *Luscinia*, all of which belong to the family Muscicapidae (Old World flycatchers).

Here are the seven species:

1. Common Nightingale (*Luscinia megarhynchos*)

2. Thrush Nightingale (*Luscinia luscinia*)

3. Rufous Nightingale (*Luscinia calliope*)

4. Siberian Nightingale (*Luscinia sibilans*)

5. Bluethroat (*Luscinia svecica*)

6. Red-spotted Bluethroat (*Luscinia pectoralis*)
