How to Breed Albino Parakeets

If you have found yourself with a pair of albino parakeets, you may want to know how to breed them. Having an albino parakeet pair does not guarantee that you are going to have albino parakeet babies. Albinism is a recessive gene that is easily dominated by the color schemes that most parakeets have in their genetic makeup. If you'd like to try for more albino parakeets, know that your results will be unpredictable.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose albino parakeet birds that are at least 1 year old. It helps if the pair is bonded. If they have not bonded, put them in their own cage where they will begin to socialize with one another.

    • 2

Keep your budgie pair in a cage that does not have a grate in the bottom. Provide them with the water tubes, the cuttlebone, mineral block, iodine salt pool (optional but recommended), perches, a jar feeder and soft wood for chewing.

    • 3

Keep your parakeets' cage clean and tidy. Allow the birds to have at least 12 hours of darkness a day with a covered cage at night. During the day, be sure to have a full-spectrum light on to enable the proper formation of vitamin D to build strong eggs.

    • 4

Add the nesting box to your birds' cage when it is apparent they are ready to breed. Insert the concave wood block to the bottom of the nesting box to help the chicks prevent getting splayed legs as they develop. The concave shape will allow them to develop naturally.

    • 5

Clean the nesting box once the chicks have hatched and started growing their feathers. Baby parakeets are almost the size of their parents by the time they start to emerge from the nest.
