Parakeets
-
Parakeets, also known as "budgerigars" or "budgies," have much softer and quieter voices than other parrots, but can actually learn as many words -- if not more -- than some of the larger parrot species can. These birds typically appeal to pet owners because of their small stature. That means a smaller cage, less food and less overall maintenance. Because they are small enough, parakeets have been known to enjoy finger taming. This where the owner extends his or her index finger as if it were a perch for the bird to sit on. It provides both the parakeet and the owner with a more personal experience.
African Gray Parrots
-
The African gray parrot is renowned in the animal kingdom for its deep vocabulary and its ability to speak clearly. Considered one of the most charming parrots in the entire world, these Egyptian natives have been domesticated for over 4,000 years. It is said that their vocabulary can hold up to 500 words at a time. With proper care and attention, the African grey parrot has a lifespan of 40 or more years.
Amazon Parrots
-
Amazon parrots are known for their utmost enjoyment of learning new words, phrases and sounds. They are very comical in nature and are arguably the quickest learners. Because of that, Amazon parrot owners have to be cautious of what they say around their quirky pets. This type of bird is known to showboat for a little extra attention by means of singing or laughing quite loudly. For this reason, condominiums, apartments and townhouses are not a suitable living environment for them.
Quaker Parrots
-
Quaker parrots, also known as Quaker parakeets or monk parakeets, are considered to be advanced in terms of overall vocabulary compared to other birds due to their tendency to not only master language, but environmental sounds as well. This ability is found to be quite relaxing for their owners. These birds can be fearless and sometimes aggressive. They have been known to attack other pets, such as dogs and cats.

The Best Talking Parrots
Owning a pet is all about companionship. Parrot enthusiasts say that bond between owner and pet can only be developed to its highest capacity with parrots because of their ability to speak. Being able to interact with a pet through actual speech rather than basic commands is something that is exclusive to owning one of these majestic birds. But, with so many different species, narrowing down on which breed to buy can often be a challenge. It doesn't have to be though.
