How to Label the Body Parts of a Goose

Though they share may characteristics with other birds, geese sport a few distinct physical features that you should remember when labeling their body parts. The goose is a bird found in the wild and raised on farms for slaughter and consumption. Whether wild or domestic, though, understanding the anatomy of a goose is important when labeling its parts -- this helps when you consider why and how geese are different from other birds.

Instructions

    • 1

Compare your goose picture to pictures of other birds, and note the similarities. For example, label areas like the back, neck and wings first, as these are major, common and easily identifiable.

    • 2

Label the bill, which is often notable for its long shape and orange color.

    • 3

Label the feet and legs, which are often unusual for their webbed toes and orange color.

    • 4

Look just above the bill, in front of the eyes, and you will see a pronounced bump -- label this as the knob.

    • 5

Look below the chin, where the head meets the neck -- label this flap as the dewlap.

    • 6

Label the feathers of the goose, which cover the body. Also note that below the feathers is a layer of soft down, which keeps the body warm.
