Information on the American Crow

Crows are a common birds worldwide, but in America, they have their own distinct features. Although they are plentiful, American crows have traits that make them special and magnificent.
  1. Identification

    • American crows are medium-sized birds with a flat, fanned out tails. They are completely black, but appear purple in the sun.

    Behavior

    • Crows are social birds. According the Seattle Audubon, the American crow shows aggression towards other birds. It can also be tamed in captivity.

    Habitat

    • American crows can be found almost anywhere in the United States. They are more prevalent in farm areas and woodlands but can make their homes in cities, and by the shore as well.

    Diet

    • The American crow is a scavenger, so it will eat anything that it can find. Other dead animals as well as insects, seeds, eggs and even grass are part of its diet.

    Interesting Facts

    • In captivity, American crows have been taught to count, do tricks, and even mimic humans. Crows are also good problem solvers; they have been seen using tools like rocks and sticks to break open shells and nuts.
