How many king quails are there in the world?

The king quail is a small quail species native to Australia and New Guinea. There are five recognized subspecies of king quail:

* Excalfactoria chinensis chinensis (Nominate subspecies)

* Excalfactoria chinensis australis

* Excalfactoria chinensis colletti

* Excalfactoria chinensis lineata

* Excalfactoria chinensis papuensis

These subspecies vary slightly in appearance and distribution. It is estimated that the global population of king quails is around 1 million individuals.
