What is the great blue herons nest made of?
The great blue heron builds its nest in trees, constructing a platform structure of sticks, twigs, and branches. These nests are large and sturdy and can be up to 1.8 meters (6 feet) wide and 1 meter (3 feet) deep. The nests are lined with vegetation, such as grasses and leaves, to make them more comfortable for the eggs and young birds. The construction of the nest is typically carried out by both the male and female heron, and it can take several weeks to complete.
