How did bird raptors get there name raptors?

Birds of prey are not called "raptors" because of their resemblance to the _velociraptors_ made famous in the _Jurassic Park_ movies. Rather, the term "raptor" is derived from the Latin word "rapere", which means "to seize or grasp." This name was given to birds of prey because of their powerful feet and sharp talons, which they use to capture and hold their prey.
