What is the difference between a male and female turkey?

Male turkey (Tom):

- Larger in size compared to females.

- Has a prominent snood (the fleshy growth above the beak) that is usually red, blue, or white.

- Has longer and more pointed tail feathers.

- Produces gobbling sounds, especially during mating season.

- Has spurs on the back of the legs.

Female turkey (Hen):

- Smaller in size compared to males.

- Has a smaller and less noticeable snood.

- Has shorter and rounded tail feathers.

- Produces clucking sounds.

- Lacks spurs on the legs.

- Responsible for laying eggs and incubating them until they hatch.
