Budgie Compatibility
-
A female budgie can do well with a male budgie if the cage is spacious. A dominant female might pick on a male if there isn't enough room for both. Two female budgies typically don't get along, since both birds might be aggressive and fight over who owns the cage. Budgies are part of the parrot family and enjoy a companion, but if you decide to add another budgie, let the birds adjust to each other from separate cages before placing them together.
Other Friends
-
Cockatiels can get along with female budgies, since the two species live together in the wild. Some other species of parrots also make good budgie companions. Grass parrots, rock parrots, blue-winged parrots, elegant parrots and bourke parrots are compatible with budgerigars. Always separate birds during the breeding period, though, to avoid problems.
Finch Friends
-
Some finches are compatible with female budgies. Zebra finches, nutmeg mannikin finches, java sparrows and cordon-blue finches can enjoy the company of budgies. These little birds will entertain your female budgie with their cheerful call and liven up your aviary. Be sure to provide a flight cage or large aviary if you plan to combine these birds to ensure enough space for flight and quiet time.
Incompatible Birds
-
Avoid mixing budges and lovebirds, who tend to be aggressive with budgies. Smaller island canaries are frightened by larger budgies. Larger parrots such as macaws, cockatoos and Amazons should not be housed with budgies. These more powerful birds' beaks can harm the smaller budgie.

Which Birds Are Compatible With Female Budgies?
Female budgies tend to be more dominant and aggressive than males, so choose another bird carefully and allow plenty of time for the birds to get acquainted from separate cages before putting them together. Budgerigars can be territorial as well. Supervise any addition to the aviary to be sure the birds don't fight.
