Is a male hawk larger than female hawk?

In most hawk species, the female is larger than the male. This is known as reverse sexual size dimorphism. The main reason for this discrepancy is that the female hawk requires a larger body size in order to successfully raise her young. She needs to be able to provide enough food for her offspring and to defend her nest from potential predators. Male hawks, conversely, do not need to be as large since their main role in reproduction is to mate with the female and provide her with food.
