What type of coat does a snowy owl have?
Snowy owls have two coats: an undercoat and an overlying coat of long waterproof feathers. The down feathers of the undercoat form three layers to cover the body with air pockets that create insulation. The outer feathers are large, broad, oval in shape, and loosely arranged, allowing the snowy owls to fly softly and silently through the air while capturing their prey.
