How many wild turkeys are there in the US today?
The National Wild Turkey Federation (NWTF) estimates that there are approximately 7 million wild turkeys in the United States today. This number is a significant increase from the estimated population of 300,000 turkeys in the early 1900s. The NWTF attributes this increase to conservation efforts, such as habitat restoration and predator control, as well as the reintroduction of turkeys in areas where they had been extirpated.
