Do male calico cats have a short expected life span?
Calico cats, known for their distinctive tricolored coat pattern, are almost exclusively female. The calico coloration is primarily determined by the presence of two X chromosomes, and most male cats only carry one X chromosome, resulting in a higher likelihood of being orange or black. Due to this genetic occurrence, male calico cats are exceedingly rare, with only a handful of known cases. They typically have genetic abnormalities, such as Klinefelter's syndrome, which often leads to health complications. As a result, male calico cats may have shorter life expectancies compared to female calico cats.
