Instructions
Select the female and male cats you want to breed and take them to a veterinarian for a full physical check-up.
House the cats in a safe, quiet place when the female cat goes into heat. Monitor them to ensure they do not behave aggressively with each other.
Isolate the female cat to prevent her from mating with other males. Female cats can have kittens in the same litter from multiple fathers.
Take your female cat to the vet after one month to confirm her pregnancy and check her physical health.
Feed your pregnant cat a high caloric, well-balanced diet per your vet's instructions. Provide fresh water at all times.
Provide your pregnant cat with a comfortable, warm place to give birth. Most cats give birth after 63 days of pregnancy and require no assistance with giving birth. Monitor your cat's birthing process and call a veterinarian in case of problems.
How to Breed Kittens
Cats come in many varieties -- from longhaired to shorthaired and from bobtail to hairless. Breeders aim to highlight certain traits in cats and, in their pursuit, create new breeds. Each breed has defining characteristics that span coloration, size and personality. Breeding cats with certain traits creates kittens that carry on desired genes.
