Different Kinds of Siamese Cats

Siamese cats come in three body types and multiple colors. Over the years, the body type of the cat has changed because of the preferences of cat show judges. While the body types are different among Siamese cats, the cat has certain common features. All three body types include the different colors, grace and beauty of the Siamese cat.
  1. Traditional and Classic

    • The original Siamese cat has an apple-shaped head and bulkier body shape than the modern show cats of the breed. A traditional Siamese cat has a muscular body and rounded face that some cat lovers have come to appreciate in recent years. Some breeders have sought to bring back the heavier, well-muscled shape of the original Siamese cat by breeding the leaner cats with a larger breed. A classic Siamese cat has a longer body type than the traditional feline, but is still heavier than the modern show cat.

    Wedgeheads

    • Wedgeheads are the modern Siamese cat, which years of breeding have produced. The show-style Siamese has an extremely long, delicate body, large ears and a wedge-shaped head. The modern Siamese is easily distinguished from the earlier body types. Health problems have arisen with breeding cats to obtain this look. Issues such as kidney failure, cardiomyopathy and birth defects have been found in the modern Siamese cat.

    Long Haired Siamese

    • The Balinese cat is a mutation of the Siamese breed that results in a cat with the body type and color points of a Siamese with longer coats. The cats are not a product of cross-breeding and can occasionally turn up in the litter of purebred Siamese cats with short coats.

    Color Points

    • Siamese cats come in four colors: seal point, chocolate point, lilac point and blue point. The seal point Siamese has dark brown points of color with a dark beige contrasting shade on the body. Chocolate points have a lighter brown-chocolate color with a paler contrasting body. Lilac points have pale gray points with a contrasting body that is nearly white. The blue point Siamese have darker blue-gray points with a light, almost white contrasting color on the body.
