Things You'll Need
- Flea comb
- Flea treatment
Instructions
Comb your cat with a flea brush, which can be purchased at any pet supply store. Dip the comb in a jar or bucket of heavily diluted bleach after each stroke; this will kill the fleas that get stuck in the brush. When you are done, rinse the comb in hot water before using it again.
Apply a topical flea-control solution to your cat's skin at the base of the neck. The natural oils on the cat's skin will carry this solution to the rest of the cat's body. Though it will not eliminate fleas instantly, it will kill any flea that bites the cat within the next several months.
Wash the cat's bedding thoroughly in hot water and dry it on your dryer's high-heat setting. This will kill any fleas hiding on the bedding.
Vacuum all carpet in your home thoroughly to eliminate any residual fleas. Though this will not kill fleas on your cat, it will help prevent your cat from getting reinfected with them. You should also treat your yard if you cat goes outdoors.
