Things You'll Need
- Olive oil
- Cat comb
- Peanut butter
- Dish soap
- Electric clipper
Instructions
Pour 1 to 2 tsp of olive oil into a bowl, depending on the size and severity of the mat. You will use the oil to loosen the glue from your cat's fur. You can safely apply the olive oil to your cat's skin and it will not harm your cat if ingested.
Place the cat into your kitchen sink so you can easily handle it and rinse its fur. Dip your fingers into the olive oil and rub it gently into the mat of glue on your cat's fur. Continue to rub the oil into the glue for at least 10 minutes to loosen the glue from the fur. Let the glue sit for another 10 minutes.
Comb the oiled fur to remove the glue. Grasp the ends of your cat's fur and hold it while you gently comb out the glue so you do not pull on your cat's fur and cause it pain. Comb as much of the glue out of the fur as you can.
Apply a small dab of peanut butter to any remaining glue on your cat's fur. Work it into the fur and let it sit for 10 minutes. The thick peanut butter should help remove the glue from the fur or skin in conjunction with the remaining olive oil.
Comb your cat's fur to remove the remaining glue and peanut butter, holding the fur at the root. Wipe away as much of the peanut butter and oil as you can with paper towels.
Add a few drops of dish soap to the area of fur you have removed the glue from. Work the soap into the oily fur and wet with warm water to lather the soap. Rinse the area of fur with warm water until you remove all of the soap.
Dry your cat's fur with a towel and comb the fur to make sure you have removed all of the glue. Use electric clippers to remove any remaining glue on the fur or skin of your cat.
