How to Clean the Wax off the Hair on a Cat's Ear

Grooming your cat is a normal process, including removing wax from its ear and off the hair on its ear. Cats are good at grooming themselves, but removing wax off their hair may be a little too much for them to handle. Clean their ears regularly to get cats accustomed to it. Some cats tolerate routine cleaning, while others may become fussy. Some tips will make cleaning wax off the hair of a cat's ear an easier process.

Instructions

    • 1

Place your cat in your lap, swaddled in a towel. Hold the tip of the cat's ear between your thumb and forefinger.

    • 2

Fold the ear gently backwards. Look for any signs of redness, soreness or unusual colored wax. Normal wax should be light brown. If the wax is red or black, you should get your cat checked out by a veterinarian.

    • 3

Wipe the wax off the hair on your cat's ear with a cotton gauze, dampened with two drops of hydrogen peroxide or a ear cleanse pad for cats.

    • 4

Wet a clean cotton gauze and wipe again until all the wax is removed from off the cat's hair.
