How to Dye Cat Fur

Some reasons for wanting to dye your cat's fur include having its fur match the colors of a holiday, adding hues that reflect the mood and personality of your cat, or covering up graying or fading fur. If your pet will allow it, you can dye your cat's hair with pet hair-dye gel that's made for felines. After making sure the product is nontoxic and approved by the Cosmetic, Toiletry and Fragrance Association, you're ready to begin. Semi-perminant dyes generally last for about four to six washes.

Instructions

    • 1

Wash your cat with water and shampoo. Rinse off the shampoo, but don't dry your cat's fur. Put on gloves before handling the pet hair-dye gel to prevent staining your skin.

    • 2

Apply the gel to your cat's wet fur, and leave the dye on for 15 minutes (or less if you want a less intensely colored cat).

    • 3

Rinse and dry your cat's coat.
