Short
-
In the short style, a cat's fur is cut back to about about 1/3 of an inch. It is a low maintenance style, and allows the cat to stay cool during the summer months. A #4 blade can be used to get the hair down 1/2 to 1/3 of an inch, with scissors used for tidying up.
Shaved
-
Some owners will choose to buzz the cat's fur almost down to the skin. While this style may look a little extreme, it can be good for owners who want their cats to start growing in a thick, healthy coat. Shaving the cat removes old, damaged hair and allows the new hair to make a fresh start. If you decide to get your cat fully shaved, remember there may be issues with sunburn, as the coat protects the skin.
Posh and Becks
-
A style that's been called a "Mohawk for cats" involves shaving off most of the fur from the cat's body, while leaving a narrow strip of fur that runs between the cat's shoulders, down its back and to its tail. This is a good style for cats who regularly knot or mat their fur.
Lion Clip
-
A lion clip is often seen on Persians and other long-haired cats. This style calls for shaving most of the cat's body, but leaves the head, neck, feet and the end of the tail fully furred. Despite its fanciful look, this is a functional hairstyle that can keep a cat cool while allowing it to retain some of its fur. Retaining some fur allows the cat to be more sensitive to what is around it, and it can offer some mild protection to the parts of the body covered.

Cat Hairstyles
Cats may have their fur clipped to remove mats or to allow breeds with long-fur some relief in the summertime, but there are also cat hairstyles that are done purely for style. If you're considering having your car's fur cut into a fancy and stylish "do," keep in mind not only your own personal taste, but your cat's comfort too and then choose a style that is complimentary to both.
