How to Kill Cat Mites

Cat mites are tiny insects that live inside your cat's ear, feeding on the blood of the animal. These pests may become extremely painful and irritating to your pet, so if you see your cat continually shaking its head, scratching its ears, or if you detect a different odor around the ear, your pet most likely has mites. Once you detect the insects, it is extremely important to get rid of them as soon as possible.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply a few drops of an ear mite treatment directly into the cat's ear. There are many different medications available, most of which require a prescription from your veterinarian.

    • 2

Massage the drops into the ear by rubbing the outside of the ear. This also helps soothe any irritation the cat may have with the medication.

    • 3

Repeat the application process as directed until all of the medication is gone. Do not stop when the symptoms disappear as the mites may just be dormant.

    • 4

Keep infected cats away from other animals because the mites may jump from one animal to the other. If you fail to separate the animals, you may have to take the other animals to the veterinarian for treatments or prescriptions, as well.
