Home Remedy for Cats With Fleas

Cats are constantly capturing small bugs like fleas and ticks in their fur. Although ticks can be quite easy to catch and take car of, fleas are another matter entirely. Fleas breed wildly and the battle can seem never ending. Although there are several chemical remedies, some people feel natural, home remedies are more suitable to their cat's disposition.
  1. Cedar Shavings and Light

    • Add cedar shavings to the home to keep fleas out. Sprinkle the shavings around the home as well as filling pillow cases and bedding to keep fleas away. Also place cedar shavings in the garden, in flower beds and by wooded areas.
Another remedy is to place a bowl of water with liquid soap detergent into a room where there is lots of sunlight. The fleas are attracted to the light and will jump into the water. The liquid detergent will keep the fleas from jumping out of the water and they will drown.

    Vinegar, Hydrogen Peroxide and Water

    • Use a vinegar and water mixture to get rid of fleas on your cat. Get an empty spray bottle and mix into it equal parts white vinegar and water. Spray this mixture onto infected bedding, carpet and on your cat. This may be a bit difficult as your cat will likely not enjoy being sprayed with water, but persevere.
Apply hydrogen peroxide to the fur of your cat. This will cause fleas to die away and fall off. Do this in a bath tub so you can rinse off your cat after the application.

    House Cleaning

    • Killing the fleas on the body of your cat is half the battle; if they continue living in the home you will never get rid of them. Wash out all of your bedding and get rid of any pillows that you believe have flea contamination on the inside.
Vacuum the home to catch small fleas you cannot see. Clear out long weeds and grass from your yard and clean out any excessive scrap branches at the edge of a woods to kill flea colonies.
