How to Wash Out Cat Hair

Cats like to be clean and will sometimes spend hours licking themselves to remove dirt, debris and food particles. Sometimes, your cat can become soiled and may not be able to clean himself sufficiently. Shampooing your cat's hair with specialty products like flea shampoo can also be used to rid your cat of parasites and keep her healthy and beautiful. Unlike dogs, you can't simply shoot down your cat with a water hose, as cats typically hate coming into contact with too much water.

Instructions

    • 1

Fill a bathtub with lukewarm water to a depth of one to two inches. Plug your tub's drainage hole to keep the water from draining.

    • 2

Bring your cat into the bathroom and shut the door. This keeps your cat from fleeing the area.

    • 3

Set the cat into the bathtub. Hold the cat firmly by the back of the neck to keep it from escaping.

    • 4

Scoop water from the bathtub bottom onto the cat until the cat's hair is wet. Massage standard cat shampoo into the cat's coat until a lather is created.

    • 5

Scoop water onto the cat again to rinse away the shampoo. Alternatively, place the cat under your bathtub's faucet. Rinse until no more suds or bubbles emerge from the cat's fur.

    • 6

Remove the cat from the bathtub and place the cat on a towel. Use a second towel to wipe down the cat's body. You may wish to reward the cat with a treat after bath time is over.
