Things You'll Need
- Brush
- Scissors
- Fine-tooth comb
Instructions
Brush the mat. Sometimes, getting it out will simply take a few firm strokes.
Brush the hair around the mat. This might not get the mat out completely, but it could make the mat smaller and easier to remove later.
Insert a fine-tooth comb between the mat and the cat's skin. This will give you a chance to cut off the mat with scissors while lowering the possibility of cutting the cat. If you can't get the comb in between the mat and the skin, move on to Step 4.
Open the blades of the scissors and place one of them at the base of the mat, sharp side up. Cut through the mat slowly, always in the direction away from the skin.
Remove the mat in small parts, continuing to do so slowly, until the entire mat is gone.
Give your cat a treat when you finish. Removing the mat was probably more stressful for her than it was for you.
