Things You'll Need
- Cat comb
Instructions
Select a comb or brush that has a good grip. If your cat has short hair, use a soft brush or rubber toothed brush. Be sure that the brush you choose contains soft bristles so they do not scratch your cat's skin. For medium and long-haired cats, rubber toothed brushes work well to get out loose fur however a long-haired cat truly needs a wide-toothed as well as a narrow-toothed comb. Use the wide one first to remove loose fur then follow up with the narrow-toothed comb. A comb is more effective for longer haired cats because it picks up the hair close to the scalp while at the same time getting down to the root.
Wet the comb with cold water so that the fur can stick to it more effectively.
Make sure your cat is in a comfortable area so you can brush it for approximately 10 minutes. Try to brush their back and stomach, not just one area.
When the brush is full, empty the brush into a trash can and resume brushing if necessary.
Ideally, you want to comb your cat at least once a day so that their fur remains in excellent condition. Constant combing is also beneficial towards you because it prevents them from shedding on your own furniture.
